Origin of Gharara
Women of the Mughal era shone in the elegant and resplendent gharara dress. Mughal women preferred to wear the gharara dress for royal occasions. These gharara pants originated in Uttar Pradesh also called the Awadh region. The gharara pants reprised its fashion fervor in the 1970s and 80s and it was largely due to the influx of Bollywood movies. While it was always there in vogue it kind of took a back seat in the late ’80s and saw a rise in the trend in recent years. Popular film actresses had much to do with the style resurgence.
